As a mem­ber of the Helm­holtz Asso­ci­ation of Ger­man Rese­arch Cen­ters, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The Cen­ter's focus is on inter­dis­cip­lin­ary rese­arch in the areas energy, health and mat­ter.

At the Insti­tute of Radioon­co­logy – Onco­Ray sci­ent­ists (f/m/d) spe­cial­iz­ing in medi­cine, phys­ics, bio­logy and IT work tog­e­ther to cru­cially improve the treat­ment of can­cer by admin­is­ter­ing radi­ation ther­apy that is bio­lo­gic­ally-per­son­al­ized and tech­nic­ally-optim­ized.

As part of the Insti­tute, the Depart­ment of Med­ical Radi­ation Phys­ics invi­tes app­lic­a­tions as Post­Doc (w/m/d) Bio­phys­ical Rese­arch.

The pos­i­tion will be avail­able from 1 April 2022. The employ­ment con­tract is lim­ited to two years, with the pos­sib­il­ity of lon­ger-term pro­spects.

Post­Doc (w/m/d) Bio­phys­ical Rese­arch


Working field:

  • Plan­ning, setup, con­duct­ing and ana­lysis of phys­ics and bio­logy exper­i­ments, in par­tic­u­lar at the Dres­den pro­ton ther­apy facil­ity
  • Col­lab­or­a­tion on the pro­ject Mag­netic Res­on­ance Ima­ging Integ­rated Pro­ton Ther­apy
  • Super­vi­sion of gradu­ation the­ses (Bach­elor, Mas­ter, PhD)
  • Teach­ing wit­hin the mas­ter pro­gram Med­ical Radi­ation Sci­ences, in par­tic­u­lar in the radi­ation pro­tec­tion mod­ules
  • Acquis­i­tion of third-party fund­ing (inde­pend­ent and con­trib­ut­ory)


  • PhD degree in Phys­ics or a rela­ted dis­cip­line
  • Excel­lent know­ledge in radi­ation and med­ical phys­ics, in par­tic­u­lar accel­er­a­tion, trans­port, detec­tion and inter­ac­tion of par­ti­cle beams with mat­ter
  • Very good exper­i­men­tal skills and sub­stan­tial prac­tical exper­i­ence in irra­di­ation and dosi­metry, pre­fer­ably with pro­ton beam
  • Inte­rest in mul­tidi­scip­lin­ary and trans­la­tio­nal rese­arch as well as in radi­ation pro­tec­tion
  • Know­ledge in radi­ation pro­tec­tion and radi­ation bio­logy is a plus
  • Abil­ity to work inde­pend­ently, effi­ciently, goal-ori­ented and pro­act­ive
  • Excel­lent Eng­lish skills and will­ing­ness to work in an inter­na­tio­nal team
