The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Fel­low

The posi­tion is star­ting at the ear­liest pos­si­ble date. This posi­tion is fixed- term until June 30, 2018. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – Wiss­ZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD/habi­li­ta­tion the­sis).
The rese­arch activi­ties are embed­ded in the Euro­pean rese­arch pro­ject „5G-XHaul“ (Dyna­mi­cally Recon­fi­gura­ble Opti­cal-Wire­less Back­haul/Front­haul with Cogni­tive Con­trol Plane for Small Cells and Cloud-RANs). The rese­arch field will be on mas­sive MIMO in the con­text of next-gene­ra­tion mobile net­works uti­li­zing cloud-tech­no­logy. More spe­ci­fic, it will be inves­ti­ga­ted, how mas­sive MIMO, which uti­li­zes antenna arrays with poten­ti­ally hund­reds of ele­ments, can be inte­gra­ted into a Cloud-RAN archi­tec­ture, in which the recei­ved signals of all antenna ele­ments have to be trans­por­ted via so-cal­led front­haul-links. The rese­arch will have to be coor­di­na­ted with indus­trial and aca­de­mic part­ners.

Work­ing field:

Ana­ly­sis, spe­ci­fi­ca­tion and deve­lop­ment of sys­tem archi­tec­tu­res for mas­sive MIMO-based signal pro­ces­sing in mobile net­works, inclu­ding the addi­tio­nal for­war­ding of the MIMO signals over front­haul links. This will include alge­braic and ana­lytic deri­va­tion of algo­rithms for intel­li­gent and fle­xi­ble uti­liza­t­ion of mas­sive MIMO with a limi­ted front­haul capa­city, opti­miza­t­ion of these algo­rithms with regard to the under­ly­ing wire­less tech­no­lo­gies, deve­lop­ment of soft­ware model­ling archi­tec­tu­res and algo­rithms, imple­men­ta­tion and test of the algo­rithms on real-time sys­tems, imple­men­ta­tion of requi­red stan­dar­di­zed inter­faces and pro­to­cols. The rese­arch results shall be publis­hed at inter­na­tio­nal con­fe­ren­ces and renow­ned jour­nals.

Require­ments:

excel­lent uni­ver­sity degree or PhD in electri­cal engi­nee­ring, infor­ma­tion tech­no­logy, com­pu­ter sci­ence, phy­sics or mathe­ma­tics; enthu­si­asm for sci­en­ces; pro­found know­ledge in mathe­ma­tics in order to ana­lyze wire­less com­mu­ni­ca­tion sys­tems; solid expe­ri­ence in pro­gramming digi­tal signal pro­ces­sing algo­rithms (Mat­lab, Lab­View, C++); excel­lent ana­lyti­cal, orga­niza­t­io­nal and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills, inclu­ding the eager­ness to coope­rate effec­tively with team mem­bers, other rese­ar­chers and pro­ject part­ners; very good lan­guage skills in Eng­lish; basic know­ledge of Ger­man lan­guage is appre­cia­ted. Working know­ledge in mobile com­mu­ni­ca­tion sys­tems are of advan­tage.
