The Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung gGmbH (WZB Berlin Social Science Centre) seeks to hire
A Predoctoral Research Fellow
starting on 1 September 2017 for the duration of one year (an extension up to two years is possible depending on funding).
The appointment is made at 100% of the regular working hours (currently 39 hours/week).
The WZB is a publicly financed international social science institution that conducts basic research that is theory-based and problem-oriented (see: http://www.wzb.eu/en). The positions will be attached to a new research unit to be established in July 2017 in the field of Institutions and Political Inequality (Director: Professor Macartan Humphreys). The new unit will use observational and experimental methods to study major problems related to the political economy of social and political inequality with a focus on the political economy of international development.
The researcher will conduct research and provide research support to the research unit on topics related to the unit’s thematic research areas. He or she will be conducting statistical analysis, developing new instruments for data collecting, conducting literature searches, and developing manuscripts and other documents.
A master degree in a social science discipline or statistics is required. Statistical skills are essential including competence in R and/or STATA as well as excellent English writing and communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants with field work experience. The position is ideal for a candidate with a masters in hand who wants to develop further research exposure and develop research design and analysis skills before embarking on a PhD.

Salary for the position: Group E 13 TVöD (in accordance with German public service collective agreement).
