Work­ing field:

The pos­i­tion com­prises research and teach­ing at the Chair of Mater­i­als Engin­eer­ing. The research focus will be within the fields of micro­struc­tural and mech­an­ical char­ac­ter­isa­tion of mater­i­als on dif­fer­ent length­s­cales, nan­ofa­tigue, nanoin­dent­a­tion, and know­ledge dynam­ics in the engin­eer­ing sci­ences, where we expect act­ive and inde­pend­ent rep­res­ent­a­tion of the chair in the cur­rent applic­a­tion pro­cess for a research unit. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will fur­ther be respons­ible for our nanoin­denter regard­ing sci­entific, meth­od­o­lo­gical and tech­nical top­ics. Rep­res­ent­a­tion of the chair on national and inter­na­tional con­fer­ences and the pub­lic­a­tion of res­ults in recog­nized journ­als are man­dat­ory aspects of the research work.
Regard­ing teach­ing, the chair offers bach­elor and mas­ter courses for stu­dents of mech­an­ical, trans­port, indus­trial, and med­ical engin­eer­ing and of mater­i­als sci­ence. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate has to give lec­tures in mater­i­als sci­ence, bio­ma­ter­i­als, and bioin­spired mater­i­als inde­pend­ently. We fur­ther expect full com­mit­ment in the qual­i­fied super­vi­sion of bach­elor- and mas­ter theses.
The future col­league fur­ther needs to sup­port the head of the chair regard­ing organ­isa­tional, mana­gerial, and pub­lic rela­tions tasks.


  • suc­cess­fully fin­ished sci­entific uni­versity stud­ies, hold­ing a dip­loma, mas­ter or equi­val­ent degree in mater­i­als sci­ence, prefer­ably with a focus on anor­ganic-non­metal­lic mater­i­als
  • suc­cess­fully fin­ished dis­ser­ta­tion in mater­i­als sci­ence, hold­ing a Dr.-Ing., PhD or equi­val­ent degree, prefer­ably achieved in the field of micro­struc­tural and mech­an­ical char­ac­ter­isa­tion of ceram­ics or bio­lo­gical hard tis­sues
  • Min­imum three years of exper­i­ence in a reg­u­lar aca­demic or indus­trial pos­i­tion
  • pro­found know­ledge and prac­tical exper­i­ence in the fields of struc­ture-prop­erty-rela­tion­ships of zir­conia and dentine, nanoin­dent­a­tion and nan­ofa­tigue of ceram­ics, metals and bio­lo­gical hard tis­sues
  • sev­eral years of teach­ing exper­i­ence of mater­i­als engin­eer­ing, bio­ma­ter­i­als and bioin­spired mater­i­als courses, and of using digital activ­a­tion meth­ods for groups of sev­eral hun­dreds of stu­dents;
  • sev­eral years of exper­i­ence in the organ­isa­tion of a uni­versity depart­ment, spe­cific­ally regard­ing teach­ing courses (lec­tures, lab courses) and digital exam­in­a­tions for big groups
  • know­ledge in the field of know­ledge dynam­ics in the engin­eer­ing sci­ences
  • very good know­ledge of Ger­man and Eng­lish in writ­ing, read­ing, and speak­ing, so that teach­ing is pos­sible in both lan­guages
  • exper­i­ence and tal­ent in per­form­ing sci­entific exper­i­ments;
  • struc­tured work­ing style, organ­isa­tional skills and good time man­age­ment;
  • team work­ing cap­ab­il­ity, sense of respons­ib­il­ity, and reli­ab­il­ity;
  • com­pet­ences in sup­port of young sci­ent­ists and women in sci­ence are of advant­age.
  • thor­ough interest in research and teach­ing in mater­i­als sci­ence as well as in organ­isa­tional and lead­er­ship tasks
