Research Assistant - permanent position acc. to MAVO - salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner

A position for a research assistant (including researching and teaching) is to be filled for the launch, supervision and future development of the PROJEKTLABOR K (K-Lab) – under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Angela Million, at the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning (ISR) at TU Berlin.
Coordination and management of research and teaching activities of the K-Lab – the new laboratory for CAR-TOGRAPHY (geodata management and visualization of urban planning/design content), KNOWLEDGE MOBILISATION (dissemination activities, publications unit), COMMUNICATION (public relations, alumni), as well as COORDINATION & TEACHING (project teaching, methods) in the Bachelor and Master study programs (Urban and Regional Planning / Urban Design) at the ISR. Tasks include research and teaching in the fields of urban planning and design methods and tools (cartography, GIS, CAD, graphic design, data visualization, etc.), the continued development of the K-Lab (incl. acquisition of research projects, testing of new teaching formats), duties in the areas of knowledge mobilization and communication, as well as the continued coordination of the project teaching and study programs at the ISR. The position includes a teaching load of 8 SWS in the ISR’s Bachelor and Master programs (Stadt- und Regionalplanung, Urban Design).
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in urban and regional planning, urban design, geography or related disciplines, very good results desired; minimum three years of experience in a regular academic or industrial position; minimum five years of experience in a regular academic or similar position.
A broad and solid knowledge of, and extensive experience in the future working fields of the K-Lab is a prerequisite for research and teaching in the described fields. High organizational and communicational capability are mandatory, as well as good command of German and English (further languages desirable), and high motivation and ability to work independently.
High interest in research topics related to the areas of K-lab are expected; a Habilitation within the frame of this position is possible and will be encouraged. To independently conduct research projects, experience in application-oriented and basic research is expected, incl. acquisition and project management. Experience with international projects (e.g. on European level) is an advantage, as well as with publications and presentations in national and international settings like conferences and workshops.
Teaching experience in related fields is a must (incl. good knowledge of teaching methodologies) – specifically, in the areas of cartography or the visualization of planning content (GIS, CAD, graphic design, model building, 3D, etc.). It is expected for the candidate to independently conduct regular courses (e.g. visualization and methods, projects, studios) and other formats (e.g. workshops, summer schools), as well as to supervise graduation projects and theses (in German and English).
Experience in public relations and communication are expected; familiarity with publishing processes would be ideal for the tasks in knowledge mobilization (publication unit). Knowledge of (or former engagement in) university politics and/or governing bodies is a plus.
