Das MPIWG ist eines von mehr als 80 Insti­tu­ten der Max Planck Gesell­schaft e.V. und eines der füh­ren­den For­schungs­zen­tren für die Wis­sen­schafts­ge­schichte.

Max Planck Insti­tute for the His­tory of Sci­ence, Ber­lin Depart­ment III is look­ing to employ

a stu­dent assist­ant (up to 60 hours per month), start­ing date Feb­ru­ary 26th, 2018, lim­ited until Septem­ber 30th, 2018, with the pos­sib­il­ity of exten­sion,

Work­ing field:

to work on the Asia Net­work pro­ject (soft­ware devel­op­ment). Asia Net­work is cur­rently devel­op­ing a research infra­struc­ture for East Asian-lan­guage resources, using tech­no­lo­gies such as Ruby on Rails, Post­gr­eSQL and Javas­cript. The stu­dent assist­ant will be respons­ible for devel­op­ing fea­tures for this infra­struc­ture, using the Ruby (Rails) and Javas­cript lan­guages in the frame­work of an agile devel­op­ment meth­od­o­logy. The stu­dent will report to Asia Net­work’s IT archi­tect.

Require­ments:

Desired Skills:
  • Know­ledge of Docker
  • Know­ledge of Ruby on Rails (or another MVC frame­work such as Django)
  • Work­ing know­ledge of Javas­cript
  • Aware­ness of best prac­tices in soft­ware devel­op­ment meth­od­o­logy (unit test­ing, code clean­li­ness)
  • Know­ledge of GIT
  • Know­ledge of REST pro­tocol

The tasks per­formed by the stu­dent assist­ant will be the fol­low­ing:
  • Fea­ture devel­op­ment for Asia Net­work’s research infra­struc­ture using Ruby on Rails, Post­gr­eSQL, and Javas­cript (Jquery and Vue.js)
  • Func­tion­al­ity design and imple­ment­a­tion for Asia Net­work’s research infra­struc­ture using the UML lan­guage and mod­el­ling tools (such as Bal­samiq)

Applic­ants must be in at least their third semester of study at a uni­versity in Ber­lin or Branden­burg. The salary is paid accord­ing to the rates for stu­dent employ­ment in the frame of the Max Planck Soci­ety’s pro­gram to sup­port junior sci­ent­ists.
