Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, invites applications for a position of a
University Professor - salary grade W3
in the field of "Internet and Society".
The professorship includes a position as Director of the Weizenbaum Institute for the networked society (The German Internet Institute), see https://vernetzung-und-gesellschaft.de/english/ which is financed by the German Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF).
The future incumbent will have a significant focus of the work in the overlap of Computer Science (Informatics) and Social Sciences and work in particular on socio-technical aspects wrt. data-driven innovations and data protection; digital identities, privacy and self-determination; management of digital infrastructures, systems and processes; security and safety; and quality assurance of critical systems and infrastructures in research and education.
The teaching assignment includes contributions to the degree courses on Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Informatics and Digital Media & Technology and within the faculty services in degree courses on Industrial Engineering, Communication Science, and Sociology and Technology Studies, both in the Bachelor and in the Master degree programs as well as for PhD studies. It is expected to cooperate with the other departments of the faculty and of the Weizenbaum Institute in research and teaching as well as to contribute to the further development of the digitalization focus.
The acquisition of research projects and the promotion of co-operative relations with politics and international initiatives on „Internet and Society“ are desired.
During the financial support by BMBF, the number of teaching hours is 4.5 in order to master the management duties at the Weizenbaum Institute, afterwards it is 9. The future incumbent will be appointed to Faculty IV on Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Proven achievements and the constant readiness for interdisciplinary research in the overlap of Computer Science (Informatics) and Social Sciences are required. They are to be demonstrated by a strong track record in publications and projects.
Successful applicants must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance ith § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education, qualified achievements in research (PhD), post-doctoral teaching (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification in Computer Science and cross section of Internet and Society as well as pedagogical didactic qualifications and teaching expertise, to be given proof of by a teaching portfolio (for more information see TUB website, quick access no. 144242).
Applicants are requested to submit a first concept of the research and teaching activities envisaged with their application. Evidence of experience in the acquisition of external funding is desirable.
