University Professor - salary grade W2
for the division “Traffic Management and Mobility Management“
combined with the position as
Head of Division “Traffic Management and Public Transport Systems” at DLR.
The employment is of indefinite duration, follows the "Berliner Modell" and will be located in Berlin.
DLR is the national research institute for aerospace, energy and transportation systems of the Federal Republic of Germany with more than 8.300 employees.
Key focus of the Institute of Transportation Systems at DLR is on development of seminal solutions for road-bound and rail-bound transport systems. Research activities strive to improve safety and efficiency.
The W2 professorship represents “Traffic Management and Mobility Management” within the degree program of traffic engineering.
Beside limited teaching responsibilities (2 weekly lecture hours, in German and English) the position will require duties as head of division for the field of “Traffic Management and Public Transport Systems” at the Institute of Transportation Systems of Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR) in Berlin-Adlershof.
Topics will include:
Traffic data acquisition and fusion, Internet of Things, Big Data, opportunities and limitations of cloud-based solutions
Microscopic Modelling and Simulation of Transport Systems in order to develop innovative control solutions for both, autonomous driving as well as the interaction with public transport
Implementing the approach at the DLR-Institute as well as its practical application (prototypes)
Development and application of methods and means to assess quality of transport systems
Development and assessment of measures for the advancement of transport systems and sustainable mobility
Candidates must fulfil the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed and relevant academic education, qualified achievements in research (PhD), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification (e.g. documented by quality of scientific papers) and pedagogical didactic qualifications, to be given proof of by a teaching portfolio (for more information see TUB website, quick access no. 144242).
The candidate is expected to have a strong record in acquisition and accomplishment of representative research projects from industry as well as from public sources. Furthermore, the position requires documented leadership experience.
Expertise in the different domains of transportation research, such as automotive, railways, public transport and traffic management is expected.
Several years of relevant professional experience in the field of traffic research, as well as experiences in the industry, confirmed by a strong publication record is of advantage.
The candidate is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to customers and services. Finally, the candidate should display strong didactical abilities, an international research record, as well as a strong commitment into networking and the appropriate international research community.
