com­bined with the pos­i­tion as

Head of Divi­sion “Traffic Man­age­ment and Pub­lic Trans­port Sys­tems” at DLR.
The employ­ment is of indef­in­ite dur­a­tion, fol­lows the "Ber­liner Mod­ell" and will be loc­ated in Ber­lin.

DLR is the national research insti­tute for aerospace, energy and trans­port­a­tion sys­tems of the Fed­eral Repub­lic of Ger­many with more than 8.300 employ­ees.
Key focus of the Insti­tute of Trans­port­a­tion Sys­tems at DLR is on devel­op­ment of sem­inal solu­tions for road-bound and rail-bound trans­port sys­tems. Research activ­it­ies strive to improve safety and effi­ciency.

Work­ing field:

The W2 pro­fess­or­ship rep­res­ents “Traffic Man­age­ment and Mobil­ity Man­age­ment” within the degree pro­gram of traffic engin­eer­ing.
Beside lim­ited teach­ing respons­ib­il­it­ies (2 weekly lec­ture hours, in Ger­man and Eng­lish) the pos­i­tion will require duties as head of divi­sion for the field of “Traffic Man­age­ment and Pub­lic Trans­port Sys­tems” at the Insti­tute of Trans­port­a­tion Sys­tems of Deutsches Zen­trum für Luft- und Raum­fahrt e.V. (DLR) in Ber­lin-Adler­shof.

Top­ics will include:
  • Traffic data acquis­i­tion and fusion, Inter­net of Things, Big Data, oppor­tun­it­ies and lim­it­a­tions of cloud-based solu­tions
  • Micro­scopic Mod­el­ling and Sim­u­la­tion of Trans­port Sys­tems in order to develop innov­at­ive con­trol solu­tions for both, autonom­ous driv­ing as well as the inter­ac­tion with pub­lic trans­port
  • Imple­ment­ing the approach at the DLR-Insti­tute as well as its prac­tical applic­a­tion (pro­to­types)
  • Devel­op­ment and applic­a­tion of meth­ods and means to assess qual­ity of trans­port sys­tems
  • Devel­op­ment and assess­ment of meas­ures for the advance­ment of trans­port sys­tems and sus­tain­able mobil­ity


Can­did­ates must ful­fil the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­pleted and rel­ev­ant aca­demic edu­ca­tion, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research (PhD), post-doc­toral lec­ture qual­i­fic­a­tion (Habil­it­a­tion) or equi­val­ent qual­i­fic­a­tion (e.g. doc­u­mented by qual­ity of sci­entific papers) and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, to be given proof of by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for more inform­a­tion see TUB web­site, quick access no. 144242).
The can­did­ate is expec­ted to have a strong record in acquis­i­tion and accom­plish­ment of rep­res­ent­at­ive research pro­jects from industry as well as from pub­lic sources. Fur­ther­more, the pos­i­tion requires doc­u­mented lead­er­ship exper­i­ence.
Expert­ise in the dif­fer­ent domains of trans­port­a­tion research, such as auto­mot­ive, rail­ways, pub­lic trans­port and traffic man­age­ment is expec­ted.
Sev­eral years of rel­ev­ant pro­fes­sional exper­i­ence in the field of traffic research, as well as exper­i­ences in the industry, con­firmed by a strong pub­lic­a­tion record is of advant­age.
The can­did­ate is expec­ted to demon­strate a strong com­mit­ment to cus­tom­ers and ser­vices. Finally, the can­did­ate should dis­play strong didactical abil­it­ies, an inter­na­tional research record, as well as a strong com­mit­ment into net­work­ing and the appro­pri­ate inter­na­tional research com­munity. Gender equal­ity is man­dat­ory.
