Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - “Fried­rich List“ Faculty of Trans­port and Traf­fic Sci­en­ces, Insti­tute of Trans­port and Eco­no­mics

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Chair (W2) of Big Data Ana­lytics in Trans­por­ta­tion (W3 with ten­ure track)

As part of the Ten­ure Track Pro­gramme, the Insti­tute of Trans­port and Eco­no­mics at the “Fried­rich List“ Faculty of Trans­port and Traf­fic Sci­en­ces invi­tes app­li­ca­ti­ons for the
Chair (W2) of Big Data Ana­lytics in Trans­por­ta­tion (W3 with ten­ure track)
initi­ally limi­ted to a six-year con­tract, to be fil­led at the ear­liest pos­si­ble date. In being appoint-ed to the chair, eva­lua­tion cri­te­ria will be mutually agreed upon, which will be eva­lua­ted by a faculty-wide and school-wide com­mis­sion at the latest in the fifth year of the chair. The main focus of the eva­lua­tion will be the sci­en­ti­fic suc­cess in the form of sub­ject-rele­vant and high-qua­lity publi­ca­ti­ons, the acqui­si­tion of third-party rese­arch funds as well as rela­ted pro­ject manage­ment and posi­tively eva­lua­ted teaching per­for­mance at the level of a W3 chair. Fol­lo­wing a posi­tive eva­lua­tion, a per­ma­nent Chair (W3) of Big Data Ana­lytics in Trans­por­ta­tion will be gran­ted without a rene­wed selec­tion pro­cess.

Work­ing field:

During the tem­porary chair, the app­li­cants must prove that they are capa­ble of ful­fil­ling all requi­re­ments in teaching and rese­arch in this field. The cur­rent pro­cess of focus­sing on method-olo­gi­cal com­pe­ten­ces for the ana­ly­sis of data rele­vant to trans­port eco­no­mics at the insti­tute, as well as advan­cing the trai­ning of trans­port eco­no­mists in this field, must be signi­fi­cantly en-han­ced and shaped. Tasks in teaching must be car­ried out in the Ger­man-lan­guage Bache­lor's degree pro­gramme in Trans­port Eco­no­mics as well as in the bilin­gual Mas­ter's pro­gramme in Trans­port Eco­no­mics; par­ti­ci­pa­tion in fur­ther Ger­man and Eng­lish-lan­guage degree pro­gram­mes of the faculty is also expec­ted. The indi­vi­dual hol­ding the posi­tion shall focus on rese­arch in the deve­lop­ment of ana­lyti­cal com­pe­tence for high-dimen­sio­nal data (Big Data) for the inves­ti­ga­tion of eco­no­mic and trans­port pheno­mena. Par­ti­ci­pa­tion in the Com­pe­tence Cen­ter for Scalable Data Ser­vices and Solu­ti­ons Dres­den/Leip­zig (ScaDS) that is fun­ded by the Federal Minis­try of Edu­ca­tion and Rese­arch and in the expan­sion of HPC capa­city at the super­com­pu­ter is desi­red. It is expec­ted that rele­vant rese­arch pro­jects will be deve­lo­ped and car­ried out, that pro­ject funds will be suc­cess­fully acqui­red and coor­di­na­ted, and that young sci­en­tists will be pro­mo­ted. Active par­ti­ci­pa­tion in inter­di­sci­pli­nary pro­jects and coope­ra­tion with non-uni­ver­sity rese­arch institu-tions based in Dres­den and other natio­nal and inter­na­tio­nal pro­ject part­ners is expli­citly desi­red. The duties include par­ti­ci­pa­tion in aca­de­mic sel­fad­mi­nis­tra­tion.

Require­ments:

We are see­king a sci­en­tist who is inter­na­tio­nally recognised and pos­ses­ses the poten­tial for sci­en­ti­fic rese­arch at the hig­hest inter­na­tio­nal level. The pre­re­qui­si­tes are a uni­ver­sity degree, an excel­lent doc­to­rate in eco­no­mics or sta­ti­s­tics, high-qua­lity sci­en­ti­fic publi­ca­ti­ons, expe­ri­ence in the acqui­si­tion of third-party rese­arch funds and pro­ven metho­do­lo­gi­cal com­pe­tence in at least one of the fol­lo­wing fields: sta­ti­s­tics, eco­no­metrics, nume­ri­cal simu­la­ti­ons or opti­mi­sa­tion methods. Teaching expe­ri­ence, good pedago­gi­cal apti­tude and the ability to teach in Eng­lish are requi­red. App­li­cants must ful­fil the employ­ment qua­li­fi­ca­tion requi­re­ments of § 58 of the Act on the Auto­nomy of Insti­tu­ti­ons of Hig­her Edu­ca­tion in the Free State of Sax­ony (Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act of the Free State of Sax­ony – SächsHSFG).
