Stu­dent Assis­tant (Rese­arch IT)

The Max Planck Insti­tute for the His­tory of Sci­ence is loo­king to employ a Stu­dent Assis­tant (up to 60 hours per month) in Rese­arch IT, to work on digi­tal solu­ti­ons for rese­arch in the his­tory of sci­ence, limi­ted until March 31, 2019, with the pos­si­bi­lity of exten­sion.

Work­ing field:

You will work on the rea­liza­t­ion of digi­tal pro­jects, taking part in all aspects of digi­tal rese­arch. Your spe­ci­fic tasks will depend on your prior expe­ri­ence and inte­rests, and your ability to acquire rele­vant know­ledge in a self-direc­ted man­ner.

You will be invol­ved in data ana­ly­sis and pre­pa­ra­tion, deve­lop­ment of web app­li­ca­ti­ons and digi­tal pro­to­ty­pes, and employ­ing digi­tal methods such as image ana­ly­sis, GIS and data visua­liza­t­ion, net­work ana­ly­sis and lin­ked data. In addi­tion you will assist in pro­ject plan­ning, event orga­niza­t­ion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion (trai­ning, talks, work­shops, etc.).


Enrol­led at a uni­ver­sity in Ber­lin or Bran­den­burg (min. third semes­ter)
Highly orga­ni­zed
Good com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills (Ger­man and Eng­lish)
Inte­rested in Digi­tal Huma­nities
Coding expe­ri­ence in Java­Script, Python, R, or simi­lar
Pro­to­typ­ing skills (paper-based or using Adobe Expe­ri­ence Design, UXPin, or simi­lar)
Fami­li­a­rity with Linux/Unix envi­ron­ments and bash scrip­t­ing
Fami­li­a­rity with data­ba­ses (SQL and Graph data­ba­ses)
Fami­li­a­rity with Lin­ked Data
Expe­ri­ence in one or more topics of Digi­tal Huma­nities

The salary is paid accord­ing to the rates for stu­dent employ­ment in the frame of the Max Planck Society’s pro­gram to sup­port junior sci­en­tists.
