Junior Pro­fess­or­ship - salary grade W1

in the field of "Data Ana­lysis and Mod­el­ing of Tur­bu­lent Flows".

Work­ing field:

Research and teach­ing in the field of the ana­lysis of huge data sets in (react­ing and non react­ing) tur­bu­lent flows. The areas of research expert­ise of the applic­ant should include, but are not lim­ited to

  • Ana­lysis of large stochastic data sets in tur­bu­lent flows with the goal to quantify flow con­trol meas­ures
  • Non-lin­ear dynam­ics
  • Machine learn­ing
  • Applic­a­tion of ana­lysis and mod­el­ing meth­ods to wind tur­bines, gas tur­bines and vehicle aero­dy­nam­ics

In par­tic­u­lar we desire intens­ive col­lab­or­a­tion and par­ti­cip­a­tion within the col­lab­or­at­ive research cen­ter "TurbIn" 1029 (SFB 1029). Teach­ing should be exten­ded by the above-men­tioned research areas and should be offered in Ger­man and Eng­lish. The will­ing­ness and abil­ity to teach in the Eng­lish lan­guage is required. Can­did­ates are expec­ted to super­vise stu­dents’ theses on Bach­elor, Mas­ter and PhD level as well as to par­ti­cip­ate in the aca­demic admin­is­tra­tion of the uni­versity.

Require­ments:

Suc­cess­ful applic­ants must ful­fill the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 102a Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­pleted aca­demic edu­ca­tion in engin­eer­ing or phys­ics, qual­i­fied achieve­ments in research and a par­tic­u­lar qual­i­fic­a­tion for aca­demic work nor­mally attested by the excel­lent qual­ity of a PhD, and ped­ago­gical didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, to be visu­al­ized in a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion see TUB Web­site, quick access no. 144242).

In addi­tion to the above
  • Out­stand­ing research record in the above ref­er­enced areas, doc­u­mented through pub­lic­a­tions in inter­na­tion­ally recog­nized peer-reviewed journ­als
  • Excel­lent know­ledge in the ana­lysis, mod­el­ling and con­trol of tur­bu­lent shear flows
  • Very good know­ledge in the area of machine learn­ing (super­vised and un-super­vised learn­ing)
  • Exper­i­ence in non-lin­ear dynam­ics
  • Sci­entific link­age to exist­ing groups within the field of flow con­trol and com­bus­tion
  • Post-doc­toral teach­ing exper­i­ence
  • Exper­i­ence extern­ally fun­ded pro­jects acquis­i­tion

Good Eng­lish lan­guage skills are desired.
