Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

The successful candidate will work in the BMBF-funded Projekt MILAS, in close cooperation with the Paul-Drude-Institut für Festkörperphysik in Berlin. This project is aimed at the realization of a new type of laser in the frame of silicon photonics and at the development of the necessary technology for integration. The work comprises theoretical studies, design of components, its characterization and realization. There will be a strong cooperation with the PDI in Berlin.
  • theoretical investigation of optical grating structures for coupling and resonators
  • realization and characterization of grating structures, development of fabrication technology
  • development and realization of a silicon based optical board for the laser component
  • optical characterization and optimization of the laser component
  • PhD thesis preparation is possible

Requirements:

  • successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in the field of electrical engineering or physics, preferably very good degree
  • very good knowledge of optical communications
  • well-founded knowledge in the field of silicon photonics, lasers and integrated optics
  • ideally experience in numerical simulations of optical components and grating structures
  • very good knowledge of silicon and semiconductor technology
  • knowledge and experiences in the area of optical gratings are desired
  • very good english language skills are necessary
