RWTH Aachen - Chair of Botany and Molecular Genetics

The Chair of Botany and Molecular Genetics at RWTH Aachen University is headed by Prof. Björn Usadel (www.usadellab.org), and one of the leading groups in plant omics data integration. Our research focuses on genetic and genomic analysis, and regulation of plant metabolism, using bioinformatics and systems biology and data integration approaches. In the field of omics research, we are leading in the development and evaluation of plant genome data by sequencing through nanopores - a unique and revolutionary technology that allows real-time data acquisition and data analysis of nucleic acids while interacting directly with a protein-based nanopore.

We offer state-of-the-art techniques of Next Generation Sequencing and data analysis as well as national and international collaborations in an EU project. RWTH Aachen University offers career development trainings.

Research Assistant/Associate

Working field:

  • Analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data
  • Integration of genomic data with phenotypic data for horticultural species to explain genotype-environment interactions
  • Data visualization, data integration and data mining
  • Communication with collaboration partners (national and international) including travelling
  • Writing scientific publications

Requirements:

Applicants must have a doctorate/Ph.D. or equivalent.
You have completed your PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics or a related field. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing technologies is beneficial, and a strong interest in the development of data integration and bioinformatic data analysis is required. Experience with Oxford Nanopore data is a plus. You have good programming skills, a great deal of self-initiative and are able to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team. You are organized and goal-oriented and you have a very good knowledge of English (spoken and written). Basic knowledge of German is a plus. Ideally, you are very interested in collaborative projects and you are also willing to travel abroad.

What we offer:

The position is fixed term until 31.03.2020 and is to be filled as soon as possible. This is a full-time position.

The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.

RWTH Aachen University is certified as a "Family-Friendly University". We particularly welcome and encourage applications from women, disabled persons and ethnic minority groups, recognizing they are underrepresented across RWTH Aachen University. The principles of fair and open competition apply and appointments will be made on merit.
