Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Lin­gu­is­tics, Lite­ra­ture, and Cul­ture, Insti­tute of Eng­lish and Ame­ri­can Stu­dies

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Chair (W2) of North Ame­ri­can Lite­ra­ture

The posi­tion is to be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble.

Work­ing field:

The future hol­der of the chair shall repre­sent Ame­ri­can Stu­dies in rese­arch and teaching, with a focus on North Ame­ri­can lite­ra­ture, inclu­ding its his­to­ri­cal per­spec­tives. The suc­cess­ful can­di­date needs to have spe­cia­li­zed in at least one of the fol­lo­wing rese­arch areas:
  • Lite­ra­ture and media change,
  • Visual cul­ture,
  • Gen­der Stu­dies,
  • Literary and cul­tu­ral theory.


We pre­fer can­di­da­tes with a Cul­tu­ral Stu­dies ori­en­ta­tion who are fami­liar with inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch con­texts as well as with a track record in suc­cess­ful grant app­li­ca­ti­ons and expe­ri­en­ces in inter­na­tio­nal set­tings. The hol­der of the posi­tion will be expec­ted to cont­ri­bute to exis­ting rese­arch net­works and to pro­vide impul­ses for new initia­ti­ves in the Rese­arch Prio­rity Area “Cul­ture and Socie­tal Change.” We fur­ther expect a com­mit­ment to com­mit­tee work and aca­de­mic self-admi­nis­tra­tion. App­li­cants must ful­fil the employ­ment qua­li­fi­ca­tion requi­re­ments of § 58 of the Act on the Auto­nomy of Insti­tu­ti­ons of Hig­her Edu­ca­tion in the Free State of Sax­ony (Hig­her Edu­ca­tion Act of the Free State of Sax­ony – SächsHSFG).
