The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate / Post­doc / Team­lea­der

The posi­tion is to be fil­led in the area of “Con­duc­tive Domain Walls in Fer­roic Devices” can be fil­led as soon as pos­si­ble for the dura­tion of up to 3 years. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – Wiss­ZeitVG). The posi­tion aims at obtai­ning fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. habi­li­ta­tion the­sis), and allows the can­di­date to become sci­en­ti­fi­cally com­pe­ti­tive on an inter­na­tio­nal level through peer-reviewed publi­ca­ti­ons and con­fe­rence cont­ri­bu­ti­ons.

Work­ing field:

The can­di­date will be res­pon­si­ble for the nano­sco­pic and micro­sco­pic inves­ti­ga­tion of the elec­tro­nic and opti­cal pro­per­ties of con­duc­tive domain walls in a broad pal­let of (multi) fer­roic mate­ri­als sys­tems, app­ly­ing both our dedi­ca­ted and uni­que scan­ning probe methods (SPM) [i.e. Kel­vin-probe force micro­scopy (KPFM), piezo-res­ponse force micro­scopy (PFM), topo­gra­phic and con­duc­tive AFM, magne­tic force micro­scopy (MFM), etc.) as well as linear and non­linear opti­cal tech­ni­ques. The can­di­date will lead the Fer­roix team that is known for its out­stan­ding local-scale rese­arch in char­ged domain walls, with the goal to extend this rese­arch into pos­si­ble device app­li­ca­ti­ons. Bey­ond offe­ring the pos­si­bi­lity for his/her next-stage hig­her qua­li­fi­ca­tion, the posi­tion also inclu­des advi­sing/teaching stu­dents in semi­nars and lab-cour­ses, the super­vi­sion of PhD, Mas­ters- and Bache­lor stu­dents, as well as app­ly­ing for third-party fun­ding.

Require­ments:

excel­lent uni­ver­sity degree in phy­sics and PhD; expe­ri­ence and pro­found under­stan­ding in the fields of elec­tron trans­port and pola­rons; scan­ning probe expe­ri­ence; very good inter­per­so­nal and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills; an inde­pen­dent, tar­get- and solu­tion-dri­ven work atti­tude; flu­ent Eng­lish, both orally and writ­ten.
