Within the framework of a European joint project in the Era FACCE-SURPLUS program, a laboratory plug-flow reactor shall be used for acid fermentation of various biogenic raw materials, the products shall be separated so that they can be used in further processes. With the help of gradient measurements, optimum operating points shall be found, so that a small spectrum of products is maintained and a complete conversion can be achieved in a short time. Various measuring and sampling points along the plug flow reactor are used to monitor the process change as a function of the residence time. The information shall be used for process control with flexible loading. The products obtained shall be purified on a laboratory scale and fed as substrates to monocultures for the production of higher-quality products. The different processes shall be characterized, and the cell physiology shall be followed by means of innovative analysis technology - partly also in real time - in order to derive recommendations for the process conduction. The effect of external enzyme additions on the laboratory process shall be investigated together with partners. In addition to work, there is the possibility of obtaining a Ph.D. degree.

Installation and operation of sensors, acquisition of gradients and cell-physiological characteristics, parameter sensitivity analysis and determination of operating modes that lead to stable operation
Purification of products and evaluation for the utilization as substrates in monocultures, particularly heterotrophic algae and bacteria for the production of value-added molecules in lab scale.
Support during the installation of a prototype in pilot scale.
Support of scientific and public events within the framework of the project.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in the field of biotechnology with proven microbiological and engineering specialisations
Ideally, the candidate has experience in anaerobic cultivation, flow cytometry and metabolome analysis as well as knowledge of metabolic pathways and cell physiology in anaerobic cultures, in process analysis and in basic separation methods
Basic knowledge of sensor technology and bioreactor cultivation is expected
The willingness to actively participate in professional events is a prerequisite. The candidate should be characterized by open communication and a good command of English (colloquial and technical language).
Knowledge of German is advantageous
