The majority of systems and services that are provided by computer science, electrical engineering and information technology finally are oriented on the needs of their human users. To build successfully build such systems and services it essential to investigate and understand users and their behavior when interacting with technology. On the hand, this understanding allows to derive design principles for human-machine-interfaces and to define requirements concerning the system and its underlying technologies. On the other hand, new available technologies do offer new possibilities regarding the design of such interfaces and the development of new kinds of interaction.
The Quality and Usability Lab is part of TU Berlin’s Faculty IV and deals with the design and evaluation of human-machine interaction. Here, the main subjects of our research are human perception, aspects of technical system that are related to the interaction as well as interaction design.
Supporting the teaching of courses and exercises with a focus on the bachelor course Media Informatics. Here especially the course „Introduction to Media Informatics“ and the development and support of the exercise. Maintenance, technical support and supervision of the online course (MOOC) Communication Acoustics as well as mentoring the students within this course.
Also, important part of your work will be empirical research on usability and user experience/VR Augmented Reality.
The concrete tasks include, among other things:
Development and support of exercises
Technical maintenance and support as well as helping to content wise shape the online course Communication Acoustics (MOOC-Platform)
Supervision and mentoring of students
Development of systems in Augmented/Virtual Reality
Selection of appropriate technologies and frameworks
Research on usability and user experience/VR Augmented Reality as well as multimodal interaction
Project communication and reporting
Publication and presentation of project and research results in scientific journals, at conferences, and in workshops
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science/informatics, media informatics, computer engineering, information systems or communication technology (or an equivalent technical background)
verifiable, practicable experience in the realization of virtual/augmented Reality systems
Well-founded experience in at least one programming languages: e.g. Python, PHP or Java
Experience in using Unity
Well-founded experience in building prototypes with e.g. Sketch or InVision
Profound knowledge in media technics
Know-how in handling software tools e.g. Adobe Photoshop
Very good knowledge in human-computer-interaction (HCI), multimodal interaction und user experience (UE)
Knowledge in using and maintaining of online platforms for teaching (MOOCs)
Language skills: German skills sufficient for teaching communication, English fluent in writing and speaking
Ideally knowledge about empirical studies and statistical data analysis
Ideally experience in industrial design and industrial environment
Joy of working in an interdisciplinary and international environment
