Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II

Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Theoretical Physics, invites applications for a

University Professor - salary grade W3

for the chair of "Theoretical Physics with a focus on Condensed Matter Theory".

Working field:

Applicants are expected to teach the field of Theoretical Physics in the entire breadth and depth and to participate in all teaching activities of the Institute of Theoretical Physics. In research they should represent “Theoretical Physics with a focus on Condensed Matter Theory“. Teaching requirements shall be met in German and English. Candidates are expected to supervise students’ theses on Bachelor, Master and PhD level as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.

Candidates must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act). These include a completed academic education in physics or a comparable discipline, qualified achievements in research (doctorate in physics or a comparable discipline), additional academic achievements and pedagogical-didactic qualifications, demonstrated by relevant teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB website, quick access 144242).
We are looking for an outstanding and international leading scientist with excellent scientific achievements to strengthen and to further develop the profile of the Institutes of Physics in the field of Theoretical Physics. The research of the new professorship should focus on new methods and subjects by concentrating on topical research fields in the theory of condensed matter with special emphasis on the nonequilibrium. The whole spectrum of topics is of interest ranging from quantum-mechanical problems to soft matter and to biophysical systems including paradigmatic theories.
The Institute of Theoretical Physics already hosts internationally recognized research groups in the fields of soft matter, biological physics, nonlinear dynamics and the many-body quantum theory of transport and optics. The research of the successful candidate is expected to meaningfully extent and complement these activities. Please explain on a one-page memo how you connect to these activities. Also, experience/activity in third-party funding and contributing to joint research activities of the Physical Institutes is anticipated.
