The "EU-Clean Sky project ESTiMATE" aims at the development of physical models and efficient algorithms for the prediction of soot in aero-engine combustion chambers and the generation of advanced software for the corresponding simulations. This approach will be supported by reference experiments for model development and model validation by members of the consortium. The experimental data will not only be used for the validation, but also as input for the model fine calibration under relevant conditions for aero-engines.
The working field of the position in question includes experiments in turbulent countercurrent diffusion flames and swirl-stabilized flames at atmospheric pressure. A new experimental facility for turbulent countercurrent diffusion flames will be built in cooperation with a research team of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). The objective is the development of an experimental database for kerosene fuel surrogates for the development of kinetic and soot models and the validation of CFD-calculations from other work packages of the parent project.
successfully completed university degree (Diplom, Master or equivalent) in engineering or physics (Engineering Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics or else)
completed PhD in the field of combustion of liquid fuels, focusing on soot generation
excellent knowledge in combustion diagnostics and especially in the area of emission measurement and optical measurement techniques for soot generation are required
experience in building or extending existing combustion test rigs will be of a advantage
communication abilities, teamwork experience and excellent knowledge of English are requested
