IHP is an insti­tute of the Leib­niz Asso­ci­ation and con­ducts research and devel­op­ment of sil­icon-based sys­tems and ultra high-fre­quency cir­cuits and tech­no­lo­gies includ­ing new mater­i­als. It devel­ops innov­at­ive solu­tions for applic­a­tion areas such as wire­less and broad­band com­mu­nic­a­tion, secur­ity, med­ical tech­no­logy, industry 4.0, auto­mot­ive industry, and aerospace. IHP employs approx­im­ately 330 people. It oper­ates a pilot line for tech­no­lo­gical devel­op­ments and the pre­par­a­tion of high-speed cir­cuits with 0.13/0.25 μm BiC­MOS tech­no­lo­gies, loc­ated in a 1000 m² class 1 clean­room.

Sci­ent­ist (m/f/d) for CVD growth of SiGe/Si

Work­ing field:

Group IV (SiGe) het­eroep­itaxy provides a crit­ical plat­form for vari­ous Si-based tech­no­lo­gies, such as SiGe:C BiC­MOS, Si-Photon­ics and elec­tron spin-based quantum com­put­ing approaches. The research is con­duc­ted by an inter-divi­sional research team con­sist­ing of sci­ent­ists from the Mater­i­als Research and Tech­no­logy depart­ments.

  • Tack­ling vari­ous growth aspects and engin­eer­ing CVD growth strategies on 200mm Si wafers
  • Par­ti­cip­at­ing in the struc­tural char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion (SIMS, TEM, XRD etc.) and care­fully eval­u­at­ing the mater­ial qual­ity
  • Sup­port­ing dif­fer­ent Group-IV (i.e. Si, SiGe, Ge)-based research pro­jects as well as assist­ing to main­tain the over­all epi­taxy pro­cess sta­bil­ity of IHP’s pilot line
  • A PhD degree can be pur­sued and is highly encour­aged

Require­ments:

  • Mas­ter degree in phys­ics, mater­i­als sci­ence, chem­istry or sim­ilar
  • Strong back­ground in solid state/semi­con­ductor phys­ics and their epi­taxial growth and mater­i­als char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion
  • Ideally prac­tical exper­i­ence in the MBE, CVD or MOCVD and CMOS pro­cess tech­no­logy
  • Very good oral and writ­ten skills in Eng­lish (and Ger­man)
