The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate in Bio­in­for­ma­tics

The posi­tion is star­ting as soon as pos­si­ble. The posi­tion is initi­ally limi­ted to 24 mon­ths. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – WissZeitVG).
The Cen­ter for Rege­ne­ra­tive The­ra­pies (CRTD; is a rese­arch cen­ter with cur­r­ently 22 rese­arch groups and 250 employees. The CRTD's rese­arch focu­ses on rege­ne­ra­tive and stem cell rese­arch, with rese­arch approa­ches ran­ging from basic rese­arch to app­li­ca­tion in a cli­ni­cal-trans­la­tio­nal con­text, thus lay­ing the foun­da­tion for novel dia­gno­ses and the­ra­peu­tic opti­ons.

Work­ing field:

You will work clo­sely with the rese­arch groups of the CRTD and sup­port expe­ri­men­tal sci­en­tists with bio­in­for­ma­tics issues and pro­s­pec­tively estab­lish a bio­in­for­ma­tics ser­vice unit. Your tasks include OMICs and NGS data ana­ly­sis, ana­ly­sis of bulk RNA-sq and sin­gle cell RNA-sq, chip-sq, ATAC-sq, DNA methyla­tion and DNA sequence data; Gene Set Enrich­ment and signal path ana­ly­sis (Gene Onto­logy, MsigDB, Reak­tom, KEGG) and bio­lo­gi­cal inter­pre­ta­tion; the per­for­mance of basic and advan­ced sta­tis­ti­cal methods, in par­ti­cu­lar mul­ti­va­riate ana­ly­sis methods (dimen­sio­nal reduc­tion, clus­ter ana­ly­sis, regres­sion ana­ly­sis); and par­ti­ci­pa­tion in the design and eva­lua­tion of CrispR-Cas9 based scree­nings. Fur­ther­more, you will par­ti­ci­pate in cour­ses on app­lied bio­in­for­ma­tics wit­hin the Mas­ter's pro­gram Rege­ne­ra­tive Bio­logy and Medi­cine.


uni­ver­sity degree in a sci­en­ti­fic-tech­ni­cal sub­ject (pre­fer­a­bly bio­in­for­ma­tics or com­pu­ter sci­en­ces) or a simi­larly sui­ta­ble course of study; wil­ling­ness to poten­ti­ally estab­lish a bio­in­for­ma­tics ser­vice unit; advan­ced know­ledge in OMICs, NGS data ana­ly­sis, bio­in­for­ma­tics ana­ly­sis, in bulk RNA-sq and sin­gle cell RNA-sq data ana­ly­sis; know­ledge in Unix/Linux and scrip­ting (e.g. Shell, Python, Perl, R), in sta­tis­tics, in mole­cu­lar bio­logy and sequen­cer tech­no­logy, sta­tis­ti­cal and signal path ana­ly­sis and in bio­me­di­cine. In addi­tion, strong com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills and inter­cul­tu­ral com­pe­tence as well as relia­bi­lity, initia­tive, capa­city for team­work and a high level of moti­va­tion are requi­red. Due to the inter­na­tio­nal com­po­si­tion of the insti­tute and the inter­face func­tion of the posi­tion, very good writ­ten and spo­ken Ger­man and Eng­lish skills are also requi­red.
