Technische Universität Berlin is an internationally renowned university located in Germany’s capital city, Berlin, at the heart of Europe. A clear profile, research and teaching excellence, providing our graduates with excellent qualifications, and a modern approach to university administration form the cornerstones of our activities. Excellence and high quality are guiding principles for our efforts in promoting knowledge and technological progress.
Head of the new Chemical Invention Factory (CIF) at the TU Berlin
The Chemical Invention Factory aims at a broad, sustainable, and financially successful implementation and anchoring of green chemistry in business and society. This makes the CIF the first innovation centre for green chemistry in Germany, which in particular aims at stimulating and supporting successful start-ups in green chemistry. In addition, the CIF has the ambition to strengthen industrial innovation potential in green chemistry, and to provide decision support related to green chemistry to politics and public administration. Ultimately, the Chemical Invention Factory intends to convey the topic of "Green Chemistry" to a wider public and to activate society for green chemistry.
The CIF is located at the interface between the Institute of Chemistry and the Centre for Entrepreneurship of the TU Berlin and complements the excellent basic research in the field of chemistry and sustainability established at the TU Berlin. In particular, this includes the scientific focus area "catalysis" as one of the core topics of green chemistry and represented by the UniSysCat cluster of excellence. At the same time, applied research is made possible e.g. by the JointLab BasCat (in close cooperation with BASF). In collaboration with the Berlin Senate, a state-of-the-art laboratory and start-up incubator is currently being built at the TU Berlin as a striking future domicile of the CIF in a central location on the main campus. The head of the CIF reports to the interdisciplinary CIF governing board.
In addition to the general task of managing the CIF, the following specific tasks are part of the head of the CIF responsibilities:
Heading the CIF team, which is expected to grow to approximately five employees
Representing the Chemical Invention Factory to external stakeholders
Developing and strengthening the CIF portfolio of activities, in particular the significant expansion of successful start-ups at the TU Berlin and strengthening of the industrial innovation potential in green chemistry
Securing an economically viable CIF business model, including securing private and public grants funding further CIF activities
Developing and maintaining contacts with potential entrepreneurs and investors, the chemical industry, national and international partners, funding organisations, and relevant units of the TU Berlin and the Berlin University Alliance
Regular and close collaboration with the "Centre for Entrepreneurship" of the TU Berlin and other units related to technology and knowledge transfer
Successfully completed university degree in the natural sciences, engineering, or economics and management (Diplom, Master or equivalent, ideally with a focus on chemistry), a PhD degree would be beneficial
Interest and experience in consulting and incubating of business start-ups, preferably with a network to relevant investors and academic partner organizations
Experience in the securing public and private grants
Ability to interact with industry and university representatives, and entrepreneurs
Knowledge of university structures and management experience at the interface between the university and its relevant environment
