Das Fraunhofer-Institut für Holzforschung, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut WKI ist spezialisiert auf Verfahrenstechnik, Naturfaserverbundkunststoffe, den Holz- und Emissionsschutz, die Qualitätssicherung von Holzprodukten, Werkstoff- und Produktprüfungen, Recyclingverfahren sowie die den Einsatz von organischen Baustoffen und Holz im Bau. Nahezu alle Verfahren und Werkstoffe, die aus der Forschungstätigkeit des Instituts hervorgehen, werden industriell genutzt. ONE SCIENTIFIC POSITION (POST-DOC LEVEL) IN THE FIELD OF »LONG-TERM BOND AND DURABILITY MODELLING OF ADHESIVELY BONDED FRP-TIMBER COMPOSITE HYBRID STRUCTURES«
The Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut WKI, in Braunschweig, is looking for a highly motivated scientific research associate (Post-doc level) to join the Junior Research Group at the Center for Light and Environmentally Friendly Structures ZELUBA® to carry out research in the field of “Long-term bond behaviour and durability modelling of adhesive-bonded FRP-timber composite hybrid structures”
In our department ZELUBA® the research activities focus on developing solutions for the building sectors. Our studies cover a wide spectrum like building materials and products, mechanical characterization, dynamics of structures, building physics, fire protection and numerical simulation. You will implement research and development projects and you are the contact person for our industry partners. Your colleagues are accustomed to teamwork. Your field of responsibility extends to the acquisition and processing of research projects and the comprehensive presentation of research results in peer-reviewed publications and at international conferences. In addition, you are capable of familiarizing yourself with current projects as well as developing your own research perspectives and transposing these into research and industrial projects.

You have a university PhD degree in the field of civil engineering, material science, engineering science and mechanisms. Candidate with background in textile engineering and science will also be considered. In-depth knowledge in the fields of engineering science and mechanics, simulation, analytical modelling, and structural analysis at micro and macro-levels as well as mechanical characterization of (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) FRP-timber composite materials and structures is particularly desirable.
You are expected to carry out both fundamental- and applied-oriented research on the interfacial bond and durability modelling of adhesively bonded FRP-timber composite structures. You are expected to support and assist the Junior Research Group Leader with the project management and supervision of the graduate research assistant (PhD student level) in the respected field. A strong commitment to interdisciplinary research, the acquisition of major and collaborative R&D projects including fundamental and applied research is expected. The collaboration within the research group and the institute is essential.
