The Institute of Sociology at TU Berlin is seeking a highly motivated research associate (65% doctoral position) for the Chair of Sociology of Working Worlds’ Digitalization (headed by Professor Stefan Kirchner) for CRC subproject C07 "Platform Economy: Spatial Conflicts over Airbnb between Global Marketization and Territorial Containment" within Collaborative Research Center 1265 "Re-figuration of Spaces."
The subproject examines the reconfiguration of spaces using the example of Airbnb and addresses the question of when and how conflicts emerge from tensions between place, network space, and territorial space. The subproject examines the spatial conflicts and the underlying interrelationships of the spatial figures of place, network space, and territorial space using a mixed method design. The design compares three cities (Berlin, Cape Town, San Francisco) to examine, on the one hand, whether Airbnb adopts uniform marketization worldwide and, on the other hand, whether and how local initiatives and municipal offices realize effective containment measures.
