YOUR START IN DATA ENGIN­EER­ING FOR DATA/AI CON­SULT­ING IN LIFE SCI­ENCE & HEALTH
Join our Data Engin­eer­ing team and you’ll be devel­op­ing cus­tom solu­tions for our demand­ing cli­ents from day one – sup­por­ted by exper­i­enced col­leagues every step of the way.

Working field:

You’ll become an expert at the inter­sec­tion of AI, Life Sci­ence & Health­care and Soft­ware Engin­eer­ing, with a deep expert­ise in tech­no­logy.

You’ll design data­bases, develop – and execute – soft­ware archi­tec­tures, ana­lyse data and imple­ment math­em­at­ical mod­els, as well as gradu­ally tak­ing more and more respons­ib­il­ity for your pro­jects. You’ll be in fre­quent and dir­ect per­sonal con­tact with our sup­pli­ers and cli­ents but, with ever-present sup­port from your mentor and our self-developed, com­pre­hens­ive train­ing mod­ules, you’ll never feel out of your depth.

Requirements:

You are pas­sion­ate about your stud­ies
  • You are cur­rently enrolled on a bach­elor's degree (fifth semester or bey­ond) or a mas­ter's degree, with very good aca­demic res­ults, in a data-driven sub­ject with a strong expos­i­tion to soft­ware engin­eer­ing (such as com­puter sci­ence, elec­trical engin­eer­ing, phys­ics, math­em­at­ics, stat­ist­ics)

You have a pas­sion for soft­ware in com­bin­a­tion with data ana­lysis and some of the fol­low­ing state­ments match your pro­file
  • You’re pro­fi­cient in Python devel­op­ment
  • You can tell the dif­fer­ence between pro­gram­ming and soft­ware engin­eer­ing
  • You’re well versed in data­base design and man­age­ment
  • You’re com­fort­able work­ing in a Linux envir­on­ment
  • You have exper­i­ence using soft­ware ver­sion con­trol tools
  • You have some know­ledge of REST­ful API design
  • You have some know­ledge of ETL-archi­tec­ture
  • You have some know­ledge of con­tainer tech­no­logy
  • Some know­ledge of AWS or GCP ser­vices is a plus

  • You cur­rently live in Ber­lin or the sur­round­ing area and are able to work from our office. (This pos­i­tion is not suit­able for those who work exclus­ively from home)
  • You are avail­able to work at idalab for 20 hours a week and are open to work­ing extra hours dur­ing semester break (fully com­pensated)
  • Dur­ing your first two weeks at idalab (the onboard­ing phase) you’re able to work full time (fully com­pensated)
  • You’re able to com­mit to a six-week intern­ship at some point dur­ing your first six months at idalab, which will give you the oppor­tun­ity to explore the role of Data Engin­eer from a full-time per­spect­ive (fully com­pensated)
  • Ideally, you have at least six or more months left within your stud­ies
  • Ideally, you have full pro­fi­ciency in writ­ten and spoken Ger­man and Eng­lish. Full pro­fi­ciency in writ­ten and spoken Eng­lish is man­dat­ory. In Ger­man at least B1 level is required; addi­tion­ally, applic­ants should com­mit to con­stantly enhan­cing their Ger­man speak­ing skills.

Stu­dent Train­ees at idalab par­ti­cip­ate in the Junior Asso­ci­ate Pro­gramme:
  • A struc­tured pro­gramme, con­sist­ing of train­ings, ment­or­ing, feed­back and con­tinu­ous per­form­ance eval­u­ation based on a detailed com­pet­ence frame­work
  • Par­tic­u­larly high-per­form­ing stu­dents can be pro­moted to Junior Asso­ci­ate (€18,50 per hour plus trans­par­ent annual profit share) while still at uni­versity

How to apply:

Applic­ants are asked to com­plete sev­eral steps:
  • First comes an online test, which assesses basic know­ledge of python, SQL and soft­ware engin­eer­ing
  • Next, you’ll be invited to a video inter­view, dur­ing which we want to learn more about your motiv­a­tion and your abil­ity to explain the tech­no­lo­gies
  • You are then invited to solve our data engin­eer­ing case study, using your con­cep­tual and tech­nical skills
  • On inter­view day, you get to present your solu­tion to the team. You’ll also have the oppor­tun­ity to get to know your future col­leagues, in a total of three indi­vidual inter­views
