Research and teaching in Building Research and Heritage Conservation, in particular Building Research of Ancient Constructions, initially focus on building research of ancient constructions. In the course of the fixed term phase, the focus is to be expanded according to the tasks of the lifetime professorship to be taken on. These tasks are wide-ranging, spanning archaeological building research, regional building research in Berlin and Brandenburg, transregional building research in Germany, and building research in a global context as well as site management planning, material and damage analysis, and the development of application-oriented monument conservation strategies.
The postholder is expected to teach in the Institute of Architecture’s master’s degree programs (German and English), in particular in the area of ancient architecture within the master’s degree program in Building Archeology and Heritage Conservation and the practical cohort project which analyzes architecture in Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as within a transregional and global context. After transitioning to the W3 lifetime professorship, the postholder is expected to assume the management and coordination of the master’s degree program in Building Archeology and Heritage Conservation and the Chair of Building Archeology and Heritage Conservation.
Publications and contributions to conferences or conventions in the field of archaeological building research are expected. Candidates should already have demonstrated an openness to a significantly broader understanding of building research from other epochs as well as a willingness for interdisciplinary and international cooperation.
Applicants should demonstrate commitment to the advancement of junior scholars, and to participation in academic self-management (committees) at Technische Universität Berlin. Furthermore, the ability to work as part of a team as well as within a socially, religiously, and internationally diverse environment without bias is expected.
