2 Research Fellows / PhD Positions
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
The 2 positions are starting at the next possible date. The positions entail 50% of the fulltime weekly hours and are initially limited until June 30, 2018, and will be prolonged until the end of the PhD qualification (subject to funding approval). The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).
The positions will be in the Dresden ATLAS research group lead by Prof. Dr. Michael Kobel and Prof. Dr. Arno Straessner, one of the leading groups in measurements of vector boson scattering processes and searches for new states decaying to tau pairs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The envisaged research programme is part of the German-wide research network “Forschungsschwerpunkt FSP-103 ATLAS” of the BMBF focusing on particle physics at highest energies
physics analysis, data reconstruction and scientific service work in the following fields:
1. Vector boson scattering with Run-2 data and forward electron identification (with Michael Kobel)
2. Higgs boson and particle search beyond the Standard Model and improved identification of hadronic tau decays (with Arno Straessner).
very good university degree (Master's or equivalent) with specialization in particle physics
research experience related to LHC measurements or equivalent expertise
high motivation to join a research group in the ATLAS experiment
