Max Planck Institute for Human Development - Center for Adaptive Rationality

The Center for Adaptive Rationality (ARC) is an interdisciplinary and international research group of psychologists, neuroscientists, economists, philosophers, biologists, and mathematicians. Our goal is to study how people and other living beings search for information in the world and in their minds and make decisions when circumstances give them little time to ponder their options and when cognitive resources are limited. How can individuals and groups juggle the simultaneous demands of uncertainty, data scarcity, and deadlines—which are the rule rather than the exception in real-world decision-making?

What we offer:

The Center for Adaptive Rationality is investigating various aspects of judgment and decision-making. We offer you the chance to participate in an international and interdisciplinary research team. Research assistants will be involved in research using behavioral, computational and/or neuroscience methods to study the cognitive, affective, social and/or developmental basis for decision making. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more individuals with disabilities and especially encourages Qualified individuals to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.

How to apply:

The deadline for submitting applications is October 1st, 2018. Please send your application electronically to using the subject line “Application Student RA 1810”. Your application should include the following documents in a single PDF document: (a) a short motivation letter, (b) CV, and (c) relevant school/university certificates and references.
