Research Assistant - salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

The research of the PhD candidate will aim at developing innovative machine learning techniques (with a special focus on deep learning) for the analysis of big data from space.
The main topics include:
1) developing deep neural network models that can overcome the data imbalance problems for satellite image classification;
2) integration of the crowdsourced data (e.g., open street map tags) within deep neural network models for the extraction of image semantic information;
3) developing active learning methods that are applicable to the designed deep neural networks.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
Exprience in machine learning, data mining, deep learning
Solid programming skills
Good experience with at least one deep learning framework (tensorflow, caffe, pytorch)
Excellent English oral and written communication skills; good command of German is required; willingness to extend the German language skills
