The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate/Post­doc in Phy­sics and Mecha­nics of Embryo­nic Deve­lop­ment (m/f/x)

The posi­tion is star­ting as soon as pos­si­ble. The posi­tion is initi­ally limi­ted to 2 years, with the option to become exten­ded. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion.
The Cam­pàs Lab uses inter­di­sci­pli­nary and quan­ti­ta­tive approa­ches to study the phy­sics and mecha­nics of mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems, espe­ci­ally in deve­lo­ping embryos (https://physics-of-life.tu-dresden.de/en/research/core-groups/campas). We have recently deve­lo­ped novel tech­ni­ques to quan­tify and per­turb local tis­sue mecha­nics using micro­drop­lets. These tech­ni­ques offer uni­que oppor­tu­nities to study phy­si­cal aspects of mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems. Our lab, hosted at the Max Planck Insti­tute for Cell Bio­logy and Gene­tics, is part of the Clus­ter of Excel­lence PoL (https://physics-of-life.tu-dresden.de/en), which is a new inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch cen­ter dedi­ca­ted to Bio­lo­gi­cal Phy­sics and Quan­ti­ta­tive Bio­logy in the out­stan­ding Dres­den envi­ron­ment.

Working field:

We seek inde­pen­dent, pas­sio­nate, and moti­va­ted app­li­cants for a Rese­arch Asso­ciate/Post­doc posi­tion to (1) deve­lop and improve mea­su­rement tech­ni­ques to quan­tify phy­si­cal and mecha­ni­cal quan­ti­ties in living cells and tis­sues, and (2) study the phy­sics/mecha­nics of cells and their collec­tive inter­ac­tions in living embryos (as well as in other mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems). The suc­cess­ful app­li­cant will be in charge of instru­men­ta­tion deve­lop­ment and phy­si­cal mea­su­rements in the labo­ra­tory and have a lea­ding role in most of the activi­ties in this area, as well as work in a col­la­bo­ra­tive man­ner with a highly inter­di­sci­pli­nary group of rese­ar­chers, inclu­ding phy­si­cists, engi­neers and bio­lo­gists. You are expec­ted to be invol­ved in col­la­bo­ra­ti­ons wit­hin PoL and the Max Planck Insti­tute for Cell Bio­logy and Gene­tics, as well as with other neigh­bo­ring insti­tu­tes and inter­na­tio­nal insti­tu­ti­ons.

Requirements:

uni­ver­sity and a Ph.D. degree in Phy­sics (or rela­ted fields) and pre­vious expe­ri­ence in instru­men­ta­tion and/or advan­ced phy­si­cal mea­su­rements, as well as a keen inte­rest in bio­lo­gi­cal sys­tems, are requi­red. Pre­vious expe­ri­ence in bio­phy­sics or soft-mat­ter phy­sics will be con­si­de­red posi­tively. Pre­vious post­doc­to­ral expe­ri­ence in any of the above­men­tio­ned areas will also be con­si­de­red posi­tively, alt­hough not requi­red.
