Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty III - Institute of Chemical and Process Engineering / Chair of Measurement and Control
Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 1st qualification period (PhD candidate)
part-time employment may be possible
Model-based methods of optimization, supervision and control have already shown their superiority over model-free approaches in numerous applications. In biotechnology, application of model-based approaches is often limited due to the time needed for model building. Here, new methods will be developed in which we combine classical model components based on balance equations with data driven subsystems, e.g., convolutional or recurrent neural nets, to build up hybrid models. These will then be used in model-based control.
For this field, we are currently looking for a research assistant. The successful candidate will conduct research in an interesting and interdisciplinary group. Additionally, he/she has teaching obligations. Student courses with theoretical and lab exercises have to be taught. All courses have to be given in German.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in the area engineering with excellent knowledge in control engineering and basic knowledge of process engineering. Additionally, experiences in data analysis, modeling and very good programming skills are needed. Experiences with biotechnology and artificial neural nets are beneficial. We expect the ability to work systematically, and independently, as well in experiments, and in an interdisciplinary group. For teaching, fluent German writing and speaking skills are mandatory. Very good English writing and speaking skills are expected as well.
