Research Assist­ant - salary grade E13 TV-L Ber­liner Hoch­schu­len - 1st qual­i­fic­a­tion period (PhD can­did­ate)

Work­ing field:

Model-based meth­ods of optim­iz­a­tion, super­vi­sion and con­trol have already shown their superi­or­ity over model-free approaches in numer­ous applic­a­tions. In bio­tech­no­logy, applic­a­tion of model-based approaches is often lim­ited due to the time needed for model build­ing. Here, new meth­ods will be developed in which we com­bine clas­sical model com­pon­ents based on bal­ance equa­tions with data driven sub­sys­tems, e.g., con­vo­lu­tional or recur­rent neural nets, to build up hybrid mod­els. These will then be used in model-based con­trol.
For this field, we are cur­rently look­ing for a research assist­ant. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will con­duct research in an inter­est­ing and inter­dis­cip­lin­ary group. Addi­tion­ally, he/she has teach­ing oblig­a­tions. Stu­dent courses with the­or­et­ical and lab exer­cises have to be taught. All courses have to be given in Ger­man.

Require­ments:

Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­loma or equi­val­ent) in the area engin­eer­ing with excel­lent know­ledge in con­trol engin­eer­ing and basic know­ledge of pro­cess engin­eer­ing. Addi­tion­ally, exper­i­ences in data ana­lysis, mod­el­ing and very good pro­gram­ming skills are needed. Exper­i­ences with bio­tech­no­logy and arti­fi­cial neural nets are bene­fi­cial. We expect the abil­ity to work sys­tem­at­ic­ally, and inde­pend­ently, as well in exper­i­ments, and in an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary group. For teach­ing, flu­ent Ger­man writ­ing and speak­ing skills are man­dat­ory. Very good Eng­lish writ­ing and speak­ing skills are expec­ted as well.
