TUM - Chair of Bio­ther­mo­dy­nam­ics

The rese­arch focus of our group is the deve­lop­ment of effi­ci­ent sepa­ra­tion pro­ces­ses in down­stream pro­ces­sing of bio­mole­cu­les and their inte­gra­tion with the upstream pro­ces­sing steps, in par­ti­cu­lar bio­reac­tors. The rese­arch metho­do­logy invol­ves model-based pro­cess design on the course “from bio­mole­cule to pro­cess” and brid­ges the gap bet­ween mole­cu­lar under­stan­ding and pro­cess imple­men­ta­tion. The con­cept is gene­ral and hence app­li­ca­ble to diverse bio­pro­ducts of indus­trial rele­vance, inclu­ding small mole­cu­les as well as macro­mole­cu­les (such as pro­te­ins, polys­ac­chari­des, lipids and nucleic acids).

postdoc­toral level

Work­ing field:

  • Per­form inde­pend­ent, cut­ting-edge research in the area of biosep­ar­a­tions, with a focus on food, phar­ma­ceut­ical and fine chem­ical indus­tries
  • Con­tinu­ous devel­op­ment of new research top­ics within the group strategy
  • Pro­act­ive acquis­i­tion of third-party fund­ing
  • Sup­port and guid­ance of doc­toral can­did­ates and under­gradu­ate stu­dents in research
  • Teach engin­eer­ing courses (ther­mo­dy­nam­ics, sep­ar­a­tion pro­cesses) at Bach­elor and Mas­ter level

Require­ments:

  • PhD degree in (Bio-)Chem­ical Engin­eer­ing, (Bio-)Pro­cess Engin­eer­ing or other rel­ev­ant area
  • Sound research exper­i­ence in the area of sep­ar­a­tion pro­cesses with pref­er­ence to bio­molecules
  • Ample exper­i­ence in pro­cess mod­el­ing, sim­u­la­tion and optim­iz­a­tion
  • Solid the­or­et­ical back­ground in ther­mo­dy­nam­ics of mix­tures
  • 1-3 years of postdoc­toral or indus­trial exper­i­ence in the field of biosep­ar­a­tions is bene­fi­cial
  • Exper­i­ence in ana­lyt­ical meth­ods and design of exper­i­mental set-ups is bene­fi­cial
  • Strong com­mu­nic­a­tion skills, organ­iz­a­tional tal­ent and great interest in inter­dis­cip­lin­ary col­lab­or­a­tion
  • Know­ledge of Ger­man lan­guage is an advant­age

What we of­fer:

The pos­i­tion is open from March 1st 2019 and ini­tially lim­ited to 1,5 years, with a clear option for exten­sion. Pay­ment is accord­ing to qual­i­fic­a­tion and fol­lows TV-L (Ger­man Col­lect­ive Agree­ment for Pub­lic Ser­vices). Sub­stan­tial exper­i­mental facil­it­ies for the devel­op­ment of new ideas are avail­able. We offer a team-ori­ented work envir­on­ment with space for cre­ativ­ity, devel­op­ment and respons­ib­il­ity. We offer the oppor­tun­ity to engage in national and inter­na­tional col­lab­or­a­tion with aca­demia and industry. In the case of com­par­able suit­ab­il­ity, aptitude and pro­fes­sional achieve­ments, can­did­ates with a severe dis­ab­il­ity will be given pref­er­ence. Applic­a­tions from women are par­tic­u­larly wel­come.
