The vacant position refers to a subproject (C1) of the Transregional Collaborative Research Centre 129 Oxyflame. Oxyflame is a research cooperation of 11 institutes situated at RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr University Bochum and Technical University Darmstadt. This research center is funded by the German Research Foundation / Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
The overall objective of this research center is the development of a knowledge based model, describing solid fuel combustion within an oyx-fuel atmosphere. Therefore, a detailed investigation of the physico-chemical fundamentals of solid fuel combustion and the interactions between burner aerodynamics, flame and furnace is done in 19 subprojects.
The subproject C1 contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emission from industrial combustion processes. The achieved results are used for the development of combustion and heat transfer models. Engineering companies need these models to develop power plants with which CO2 separation is achieved.
The vacant position is situated at the Institute of Heat and Mass transfer (WSA) at RWTH Aachen University.

Detailed investigation of solid biomass combustion in an oxy-fuel atmosphere.
Experimental investigations of flow field, temperature and concentration distributions in solid fuel flames with different advanced measurement technologies as well as data analysis and documentation of results and findings.
Close collaboration with scientist and PhD Students of the other projects within the international research center to accomplish objectives of your own project and those of the research center.
Collaboration and participation in teaching processes of the chair as well as supporting students.
Autonomous working to solve given tasks and those set by yourself.
University degree (master or comparable) in mechanical, chemical engineering or comparable study with above average scores.
Interest in innovative and interdisciplinary topics and processes of solid fuel combustion.
High level of responsibility, initiative and team spirit.
Motivation for academic research and education.
Good English skills are necessary and a good knowledge of German is an advantage.
What we offer:
The position is a fixed-term employment for one year and is to be filled as soon as possible. It is planned to extend the position for another 4-year PhD fellowship. This is a full-time position. It is also available as part-time employment per request.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.
The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
