Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Bio­logy, Insti­tute of Micro­bio­logy, Chair of Mole­cu­lar Bio­tech­no­logy

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

2 Rese­arch Asso­cia­tes / PhD stu­dents

The posi­ti­ons are star­ting from 01.02.2020. The posi­ti­ons are limi­ted for 36 mon­ths and ent­ail 65% of the full­time wee­kly hours. They offer the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).

Work­ing field:

Descrip­tion and deve­lop­ment of micro­bial enzy­mes as syn­the­tic tools, par­ti­cu­larly iso­la­tion, puri­fi­ca­tion, cha­rac­te­ri­za­tion, mole­cu­lar model­ling, design and immo­bil­sa­tion of pro­te­ins; iso­la­tion, gene­tic mani­pu­la­tion, cul­ti­va­tion and down­stream pro­ces­sing of micro­bes (focus bac­te­ria); enzy­ma­tic cata­ly­sis in aque­ous and non-aque­ous sys­tems; che­mi­cal syn­the­sis; ana­ly­sis of low-mole­cu­lar weight che­mi­cal com­pounds, e.g. with UV/VIS spec­tro­scopy, gas chro­ma­to­gra­phy, liquid chro­ma­to­gra­phy, mass spec­tro­me­try and NMR; pro­ject sche­du­ling and orga­ni­za­tion; writ­ten and ver­bal com­mu­ni­ca­tion.

Require­ments:

High ran­ked uni­ver­sity degree (MSc, Dipl.) in Natu­ral Sci­en­ces or com­pa­ra­ble cour­ses; dis­tinct rese­arch inte­rest and strong self-moti­va­tion; basic theo­re­ti­cal and prac­ti­cal exper­tise in micro­bial bio­tech­no­logy, bio­che­mi­stry, orga­nic syn­the­sis and che­mi­cal ana­ly­sis; deeper exper­tise in methods of mole­cu­lar bio­tech­no­logy; flu­ent Eng­lish in spo­ken and writ­ten; abi­lity to work crea­tive and inde­pendently; above-average com­mit­ment and abi­lity for team work; orga­ni­za­tio­nal skills and dis­po­si­tion for taking respon­si­bi­lity; com­mit­ment to the rules of good sci­en­ti­fic prac­tice.
